The endocannabinoid system plays a very important role for the body. Did you know that this system is responsible for making sure that every part of your body is working correctly? Read on and you will find out how the Endocannabinoid System forms a balance in your body and how CBD interacts with it.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The Endocannabinoid System has been a subject studied by science since 1990. Discovered by Raphael Mechoulam, a scientist specialized in cannabinoid chemistry and pharmacology, in his quest to decipher the effects of the plant on the human body through his research in Israel. The research´s result showed that the cannabinoids found in the plant, such as THC, CBD, CBN, CBG, among others, worked together to achieve amazing benefits for the body, serving as connectors with systems such as the central nervous system.

Essentially, its functionality is based on an essential and vital biological network that stimulates the proper functioning of the body, without being limited to a single organ or part of it. Thus, this network receives information from a group of endogenous receptors located in the brain and delivers information through the central and peripheral nervous system.

Therefore, the Endocannabinoid System is one of the systems responsible of stimulating our metabolism, mood, sleep, memory, temperature, cardiovascular  and reproductive functions, the proper development of our neurons, the way we feel pain. … and much more!

The growing popularity of CBD is associated with the variety of health benefits this specific cannabinoid offers; improved sleep, reduced anxiety and stress, anticonvulsant properties, and pain relief, are some of the most imperative benefits it provides. These functional benefits have led CBD to become an essential component in foods, beverages, cosmetics, and supplements.

Anti-inflammatory, soothing, healing, moisturizing and anti-aging effects (when used topically), and antioxidant benefits have been evidenced when used for skin care. Hence, CBD has become a global trend in the cosmetic industry.

It also aids the maintenance of the balance of the skin, better known as homeostasis.

What are the differences between CBD and THC?
